Shawnee National Forest -- Kinkaid Lake Field Trip on Saturday, August 25th

 Enjoy a walk in the woods with Silviculturist Justin Dodson and Soil Scientist-Hydrologist, Brooke Hagarty as they discuss what makes up a healthy forest and its importance in watershed protection. Discussions will center around overstocking of trees, oak decline, impact of non-native and invasive species to native habitats, watershed health and erosion and sedimentation into Kinkaid Lake. This guided hike is about two miles round trip on mostly old roads and trails terrain will be hilly and steep in some spots. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.

 The Kinkaid Lake field trip starts at 9:00am on Saturday, August 25th.

 Driving Directions

From the junction of State Route 3 and State Route 151: Turn right on Gum Ridge Rd. Travel 1.25 miles to Lee Cemetery Rd (Forest Road 392). Lee Cemetery Road will be the gravel lane just past house on the right (look for field trip sign). Keep right, traveling 0.25 miles to parking area.

From Ava:  Travel 6 miles south on Rt 151. Turn left on Gum Ridge Rd. Travel 1.25 miles to Lee Cemetery Rd (Forest Road 392). Lee Cemetery Road will be the gravel lane just past house on the right (look for field trip sign). Keep right, traveling 0.25 miles to parking area.
