Webinar: Attracting Wildlife with Weeds

  • 03/11/2014
  • 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Internet
Many landowners are interested in creating habitat in their backyards to attract wildlife.  However, many of our ecologically important native plants are perceived as weeds when in actuality they are beneficial to wildlife. In this webinar we will discuss the need to create wildlife habitat in your backyard and will draw the distinction between native and non-native weeds. Presented by Katie Ombalski, Conservation Biologist, ClearWater Conservancy. Approved for 1.0 CFE credit, Category 1-CF. Approved for 1 credit hour Pennsylvania SFI® CE.

This webinar will be presented both at 11 am and 6 pm (CDT).

Actual web seminar details are provided below.  For troubleshooting assistance please contact Allyson at abm173@psu.edu.

1.  The site is accessible, but there won't be any action until approximately 20 minutes prior to the presentation.  A welcome note is visible and music is playing on the site.  You should try the connection now to ensure you don't have any glitches. Encourage friends and family to register independently (it's fast, free and happens only once) to get reminders and updates. Have them go to http://extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/forests/private/tools-resources/webinars for registration.

2.  To Access the site, click on the PRESENTATION URL (see number 4 above). You may log in as a Guest (which does not require a userID or password). Try this now and let us know if you have a problem signing in. You'll repeat the same sign-in process at the time of the presentation.

3.  When you arrive at the site via the above URL, you can test your sound capacity via the "meeting" pull-down menu and then the audio wizard.  During the conference, participants will be able to hear but not speak to the presenters.  If you are using a modem, experience tells us that the graphics & pictures will display, but the sound may lag a bit.  This may be frustrating to some users.  Perhaps visit your local library or extension office (call first).

4.  You can practice typing a note on the "Questions and Comments" chat box. We will clear all existing notes before the presentation begins.

5.  The site will officially open for the presentation 10 minutes prior to each session (noon and 7:00 PM).

6.  We have online seminars scheduled through the next year. Check the PA Forests Web Seminar Center for topic updates http://extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/forests/private/tools-resources/webinars .

7. This presentation is eligible for SAF continuing forestry education credits for registered participants.  At the end of the session, we will post a website to which attending Certified Foresters seeking credit will be directed. Please fill out the pertinent information. We will submit confirmation of attendance via email and send a list of participants to SAF following each approved seminar.

8. Other continuing education credits may be available for this seminar. Contact your continuing education coordinator to determine if this fits in with your education needs. At the end of the session, we will post a website to which attendees seeking credit will be directed. We will submit confirmation of attendance to them via email.

9. An Adobe Connect Diagnostic is available at https://meeting.psu.edu/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm. If you are having trouble with your connection, run this diagnostic. Answers to commonly asked questions can also be found here.
