There are several reasons to support the IFA with your donation -
- contribute to our ongoing efforts to assist forest landowners with educational programs and technical support
- contribute to keeping our website as your go-to source for information adapted to Illinois
- contribute to support our legislative efforts to promote healthy and productive forests
- contribute to our capacity to host regional events and meetings
- contribute to honor the memory of forest activist Bob Sloan
The following briefly describes these areas where you could make a difference with your support.
Spreading the Message
We are currently retooling all of our materials and displays to better convey our mission to potential members, policy-makers, and the general public. Funds are needed to print a revised brochure and to purchase more modern telescoping displays for use when we have an opportunity to set up as an exhibitor at major events.
Website
We try to provide a first rate information source through our website, to include as much as possible about Illinois' forest resource. We hope that visitors will be better informed through our website's videos, event calendar, directories, issues discussions, policy updates, and legislative and forest health alerts, to name a few features.
The website service provider is, we think, one of the best in the business. Of course, this service is a significant cost to us. If you have found value in using our website and staying informed, we would certainly appreciate your consideration and support.

Legislative Efforts
To represent the interests of woodland owners throughout Illinois, whether they are members or non-members, the IFA employs an Executive Director, who works closely with partner organizations and IFA's Legislative/Policy Committee to monitor legislation and budgetary issues that threaten essential staffing and facility resources in the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Your support of our efforts in this regard would again be appreciated.

Bob Sloan Memorial Fund
The IFA has established a Bob Sloan Memorial Scholarship Fund to remember a dedicated forest landowner and a long-time supporter of forestry in Illinois.
Bob was well known around the state for his total commitment to promoting forestry throughout Illinois. He was a major promoter and spokesperson for the Illinois Forestry Association since it’s beginning. He was not just an activist for forestry. He was an ardent promoter and exuded his love for trees. He was an IFA charter member, our first treasurer, and lastly, a director in IFA’s Region One. He was a “stand up – take action” man. He continues to be greatly missed, but will not be forgotten. IFA’s board hopes to establish a memorial in his honor.
The following are excerpts of Bob from his obituary.....
Robert (Bob) Sloan passed away last August (2009) leaving many friends in the IFA family. He was retired from the Komatsu America Corp (30+ years) and farmed for 42 years. Sloan served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Alaska during World War II and wore many hats during his life. Up until his death, Sloan was active on boards of various organizations including the Marshall-Putnam Soil and Water Conservation District, the American Tree Farm System, the Illinois Walnut Council, Iowa Trees Forever, the Sun Foundation and the Illinois Forestry Association. He was acknowledged as “a caring and giving person who went out of his way to help others.”
