Webinar: Illinois Landowner Liability Issues
When
03/05/2013
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location
Internet
Risks and Responsibil
ities
Usually, woodland owners learn about various laws regarding their land through unfortunate circumstances. Your tree falls on a common fence, and you quickly learn about your responsibilities under the Illinois Fence Law. A trespasser gets hurt and you find yourself in a quandary as to your liability. Sometimes, we learn about these applicable laws by talking to neighbors or other landowners; sometimes by asking local government agencies; sometimes by consulting an attorney; and sometimes the advice that we get is contradictory or vague.
This webinar offers an opportunity to learn about most of the laws applying to land ownership and owner responsibilities from an expert. The
presentation will provide an overview of several of the legal liability issues facing rural landowners. Specific topics include fence law, trespass, the Illinois Recreational Use Act, drainage law, and other current legal issues relating to premises liability.
Join us. The webinar is provided for free; it will only cost you one hour of your time and might save you some difficulty later.
The Presenter
A. Bryan Endres is an Associate Professor of Agricultural Law in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois and Director of the European Union Center. He also holds a research appointment at the Energy Biosciences Institute within the university’s Institute for Genomic Biology. He formerly chaired the Illinois State Bar Association’s Agricultural Law Section Council and recently completed a term on the Board of Directors of the American Agricultural Law Association. Bryan earned a B.S in Mathematical Economics from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a M.S. in Administrative Management from the European Division of Bowie State University, and a J.D. from the University of Illinois.
