Join the Forest Glen Chapter of the IL Native Plant Society for this hands-on plant identification workshop! Observe all 21 native oak species and numerous hybrids in the collection at Starhill Forest Arboretum, learn about their associated habitats and range, and identify some of the major pest and disease problems facing oaks today.
Schedule:
10:00-2:00 – Workshop and tour of Starhill Forest Arboretum oaks (and other species) - includes time for a lunch break on site
Optional - explore more of the Arboretum on your own following the workshop
Things to bring:
-Your favorite tree identification key or book
-A camera if you choose
-Lunch and water
-Appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and conditions
Camping options:
For those participants that wish to stay overnight, feel free to bring a backpack tent and camp out on the premises. Other overnight options include the Riverbank Lodge in Petersburg, or additional camping in New Salem Park.
