Voss Pecans, owned by Ralph and Karen Voss, will host an Illinois Buffer Partnership field day starting at 3 p.m. Oct. 23. Advance registration for the free event is required by Oct. 21st.
Voss Pecans in Carlyle illustrates how the buffer program offered by Trees Forever can help landowners interested in improving water quality and sustaining a practical business.
The Vosses participated in the Illinois Buffer Partnership in 2007 after some of their pecan trees were lost during a wind storm. The family farms grain, livestock and pecans. Their 140 acres of pecan trees help clean the water in the nearby Kaskaskia River watershed and provide pecans to local customers and restaurants.
As the state’s only established commercial pecan operation, the Vosses will discuss pecan production, demonstrate harvest and cleaning equipment and serve pecan treats. The farm is located at 10101 Slant Road, Carlyle. Learn more at http://vosspecans.com.
