The River to River Cooperative Weed Management Area is announcing four workshops on invasive plants to be held in four different locations across Southernmost Illinois. These workshops are free and open to the public as well as any agency staff interested in invasive species management and are supported by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund and our partners at University of Illinois Extension Forestry.

Each workshop will feature 5 units and will address the identification and treatment methods of priority invasive species, herbicide considerations, recently updated laws and policies regarding invasive species, and reporting options for those who would like to contribute to the knowledge of invasive species’ distributions across the region.

One of the biggest challenges facing conservation today is the widespread problem of non-native invasive species.  Invasive plants destroy habitat for native plants and animals by competing with native species for resources, such as light, nutrients, and moisture.  Invasive plants decrease the biological diversity of native plants and animals, and can contribute to the decline or extinction of threatened and endangered plants and animals. Come learn how you can effectively help reverse the impacts of non-native invasive species.
